Attention is focused on Kwon's future moves, as he had stated that he would not hesitate to run as an independent if the reconsideration decision was not accepted.
Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Party, told reporters immediately after the Supreme Council meeting, "There is no district where a reconsideration decision was made," adding, "There were discussions about several districts, but the nomination plan for 34 districts was approved."
Earlier, the nomination committee submitted the results for 34 districts, including Gangneung, Kwon's district, to the party's Supreme Council. Therefore, there was interest in whether the Supreme Council would request a reconsideration of the nomination screening for Gangneung, Kwon's district, but no such request was made.
Lee Seok-yeon, acting chairman of the nomination committee following the resignation of Kim Hyung-oh on the 13th, said, "The Supreme Council will decide whether to accept the nomination committee's results as they are or to request reconsideration," adding, "If reconsideration is requested, we will promptly discuss and decide again."
Regarding Hwang's emphasis on the values of liberal democracy and market economy in candidate selection at the Supreme Council, Vice Chairman Lee said, "Liberal democracy and the market economy system are values we pursue, and in addition, we are thinking about how to attract the votes of the moderate middle ground," adding, "In this election, we discussed how to attract reasonable moderate conservative forces."
