Iran Requests $5 Billion from IMF for COVID-19 Response
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Iran, where confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) are rapidly increasing, has requested emergency funds from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to respond to COVID-19.
According to Bloomberg News and others on the 12th (local time), Iran requested $5 billion (approximately 6 trillion won) from the IMF for COVID-19 response. This is part of the IMF's earlier announcement to provide $50 billion in funds to combat COVID-19.

Iran's Fars News Agency quoted Kianoush Jahanpour, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Health, saying, "958 new patients infected with the novel coronavirus were confirmed nationwide, increasing the total number of infected to 9,000." It was also reported that Eshaq Jahangiri, Iran's First Vice President, and Masoumeh Ebtekar, Vice President, have tested positive.
