Seoul City-Korea Energy Foundation Agreement... 'Basement Insulation and Cooling Home Repairs' Begin
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Energy Foundation will support customized home repair projects to improve energy efficiency, such as insulation and cooling, for more than 1,500 low-income households living in semi-basement units.
On the 8th, Seoul announced that it will hold a related agreement ceremony with the Korea Energy Foundation at Seoul City Hall. From Seoul, Deputy Mayor for Administration Jin Hee-seon, Director of Housing and Architecture Ryu Hoon, and Housing Policy Manager Kim Jeong-ho will attend, along with Secretary General Choi Young-seon and Business Director Choi Jong-gi from the Korea Energy Foundation.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Energy Foundation will cooperate and jointly strive to stabilize housing for low-income groups and secure housing rights through this agreement. Seoul will work to identify candidates for the Hope House Repair Project for low-income households and cooperate with the foundation’s project schedule. The Korea Energy Foundation will provide cooperative support when the city’s home repair projects require energy efficiency improvement initiatives. Both Seoul and the Korea Energy Foundation will work together to minimize civil complaints and improve the living environment and energy efficiency of underground housing units in Seoul.
Since May of last year, the city has continued consultations with the foundation to link the existing current projects with energy efficiency improvement projects, based on expert advice to improve the Hope House Repair Project. With support from the Korea Energy Foundation, Seoul’s home repair projects have been able to expand the budget beneficiaries and scope of support. Seoul explained, "With the foundation bearing the cost of the energy efficiency improvement projects, we can broaden the support for semi-basement households."
Starting this month, applications and related documents are being accepted at local community centers through announcements by each autonomous district. The districts review eligibility and notify applicants of the results. Afterwards, contractors visit the target households to confirm the necessary scope of work and carry out the construction. Applications for this year’s second half will be accepted until mid-August.
