Hyundai Motor sells 275,044 units in February... Domestic and export sales decline due to 'COVID-19 impact'
Domestic Sales Decrease by 26.4% Year-on-Year to 39,290 Units
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 2nd that it sold a total of 275,044 vehicles worldwide in February. Domestic sales recorded 39,290 units, down 26.4% compared to the same period last year, while overseas sales decreased by 10.2% to 235,754 units.
A Hyundai Motor official stated, "February sales were affected by production disruptions caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and a global demand contraction," adding, "We plan to actively participate in activities to overcome COVID-19 and strive to normalize sales."
Last month's domestic sales were led by the Grandeur. The Grandeur sold a total of 7,550 units, including 842 hybrid models. Following were the Sonata (including 195 hybrid models) with 5,022 units and the Avante with 2,575 units, with sedan models totaling 15,507 units sold.
Recreational Vehicles (RVs) recorded a total of 9,616 units, including 2,978 Santa Fe, 2,618 Palisade, and 1,534 Tucson units.
For commercial vehicles, small commercial vehicles combining Grand Starex and Porter sold 9,143 units, while large commercial vehicles including medium and large buses and trucks sold 1,833 units.
The premium brand Genesis achieved sales of 549 G70 units, 783 G80 units, and 683 G90 units. Notably, the GV80, Genesis's first Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) model, which began full-scale sales last month, recorded 1,176 units, quickly becoming the brand's representative model.
In overseas markets last month, 235,754 units were sold, down 10.2% compared to the same period last year. Despite strong sales in advanced markets including North America and Europe, overall sales declined due to factors such as the contraction of the Chinese market.

A Hyundai Motor official said, "To overcome the unprecedented global crisis, we are preparing regional countermeasures and will strive for early normalization," adding, "We will continue to operate a profitability-centered business based on a regional responsibility management system."
