Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Forms Dedicated Health Crime Investigation Team..."Strict Response to Mask Hoarding"
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office has formed a dedicated investigation team to probe crimes related to health products such as masks.
On the 2nd, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had established the "Dedicated Investigation Team for Disruptors of Health Product Distribution such as Masks" on the 28th of last month. The investigation team is composed of a total of eight prosecutors, including the head of the Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 2 as team leader, and prosecutors from the Anti-Corruption Investigation Division, Fair Trade Investigation Division, and Tax Crime Investigation Division.
The investigation team plans to strictly address major targets such as large-scale hoarding of health products by manufacturers and sellers of masks, violations of emergency supply adjustment measures, large-scale undocumented transactions, and transactions involving defective masks.
Currently, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office is operating a "COVID-19 Response Task Force" led by First Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee Jeong-hyun. Under the TF, there were the Incident Response Team and the Situation Response Team, but with the creation of the dedicated investigation team for disruptors of health product distribution such as masks, the total number of teams has increased to three.

The Incident Response Team has specialized units for different types of incidents, such as the Fake News Countermeasure Unit and the Assembly Countermeasure Unit, and focuses on intensively investigating five major crimes: ▲refusal of epidemiological investigation ▲refusal of hospitalization or quarantine measures ▲false reports of infection to government offices ▲dissemination of fake news ▲illegal acts related to assemblies. The Situation Response Team is responsible for tasks such as disinfection within the office building, providing necessary supplies, responding to suspected infections, and cooperating with related agencies.
