Candidate Kim Myeongjin: "Expand Childcare and Parenting Systems to Support Work-Family Balance"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Kim Myung-jin, a preliminary candidate for the National Assembly representing Seo-gu Gap, Gwangju Metropolitan City from the Minsaeng Party, announced on the 1st that she will establish a childcare and nursing system that supports the balance between work and family so that women's economic activities are not discriminated against.
Candidate Kim Myung-jin pointed out, "Gender imbalance and discrimination are severe, such as the gender wage gap in the job market (62.9%, 2018), female economic participation rate (60%, 2019), and female career interruption rate (35%, 2019)," adding, "Career interruptions due to pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare, and employment in low-wage jobs upon reemployment are further worsening the gender imbalance in the job market."
She continued, "To ensure that women's work is not discriminated against and harmonizes with family life, solving the career interruption issue must come first," and said, "I will implement policies to build and support a reliable childcare and nursing system along with raising awareness of gender-equal jobs."
She promised, "▲Promote institutionalization of gender-responsive job administration ▲Strengthen gender equality education and create a gender-equal corporate culture to build a social foundation for work-family balance, and to solve and prevent women's career interruption issues, ▲Expand support for parental leave such as simultaneous leave for couples and leave during pregnancy ▲Expand public daycare centers to over 50% ▲Establish a diversified system for full-day education programs ▲Expand after-school programs for kindergartens and elementary schools and strengthen care networks."
