[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Strawberries, the seasonal fruit heralding spring in February, have returned with even sweeter and more colorful appearances. There are various ways to enjoy strawberries. They are delicious eaten plain, but can also be enjoyed in sweet tiramisu, cakes, macarons, and even as 'Ihanchihan (以寒治寒)' shaved ice. By using the unlimited buffet held every weekend, you can savor a wider variety of strawberry desserts more abundantly.
According to Osan City and related industries on the 22nd, strawberries are not only tasty but also highly nutritious. First, the abundant allicin and anthocyanins in strawberries inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells. In particular, anthocyanins help lower cholesterol levels and, along with vitamin A, protect the eyes. They promote the regeneration of rhodopsin, a retinal pigment protein, which helps relieve eye fatigue. Especially in times like these when immunity tends to weaken, strawberries help protect the body. Like other sweet and sour fruits, the vitamin C content aids in strengthening the body's immune system.
Strawberries, delicious even when eaten plain, are also spotlighted as desserts thanks to their pretty visuals. In fact, the domestic strawberries used in the 'Strawberry Shaved Ice' menu, which Seoul Shilla Hotel introduced for the first time last year for a month, weighed up to 1 ton, including Geumsil strawberries. The sales proportion of strawberry shaved ice among all menu items at the hotel's lounge & bar 'The Library' approached one-quarter. The strawberry buffet at Lotte Hotel Seoul fills up quickly, requiring reservations 3 to 4 weeks in advance. This year's sales have also doubled compared to the same period last year.
Seoul Shilla Hotel resumed strawberry shaved ice sales this January and will continue until the 29th of this month. The harmony of handmade strawberry jelly balls, the rich flesh of Geumsil strawberries, and milk snowflake shaved ice is exquisite. Handmade strawberry syrup and strawberry ice cream are provided, and upon request, fresh cream and French chocolate sauce are also available. The portions are generously served to comfortably accommodate 2 to 3 people.
Lotte Hotel Seoul is offering the 'Strawberry Afternoon Tea Set' continuously until April 30th. Created by Nam Seok-woo, the pastry chef of Lotte Hotel Seoul, the menu features 10 types of strawberry desserts with endangered animals depicted on a three-tier tray topped with cute animal figures. You can enjoy items such as 'Strawberry Dacquoise' and 'Green Tea Red Bean Mousse with Strawberry Jelly.' The sweet strawberry desserts can be enjoyed with two cups of German 'Ronnefeldt' tea or coffee. Every weekend until April 19th, a strawberry buffet is also operated. Each table receives one welcome star tray and can comfortably enjoy over 30 types of strawberry dessert buffet items, tea, and coffee.
Courtyard Marriott Seoul Times Square in Yeongdeungpo also offers a strawberry buffet 'Oh! Very Strawberry' and 'Strawberry Afternoon Tea Set' at its casual bar 'Momo Bar.' The strawberry buffet runs every weekend until April 12th. You can enjoy signature menu items such as strawberry pavlova, wine, sparkling wine, choux, macarons, panna cotta, and tarts. The tea set is available on weekday afternoons until April 10th. Desserts are served on a pretty three-tier tray along with German tea brand 'Althaus' tea or coffee.
There is also a strawberry buffet held in Korea's only no-kids zone. The strawberry buffet 'Strawberry Meokgo Gallae?' operates every weekend from the 29th of this month to April 26th at 'Kings Vacation,' the lounge bar on the 31st floor of Sky Kingdom at Seoul Dragon City. You can taste sparkling wine and various strawberry desserts. The main ingredient is strawberries harvested fresh that morning from Nonsan, Chungnam. Signature menu items include 'Cognac Bonbon,' 'Strawberry Crepe Cake,' 'Pavlova,' 'Strawberry Roll,' and 'Red Velvet.'
There is also a package product combining the strawberry buffet and a weekend hotel stay. InterContinental Seoul COEX in Samseong-dong is selling the 'Strawberry Avenue Package,' which allows you to enjoy a strawberry dessert buffet and a hotel stay, limited to check-ins from Friday to Sunday until March 29th. Starting from 250,000 KRW, it includes one night in a Superior Room and benefits for two people at the strawberry dessert buffet 'Strawberry Avenue.' You can enjoy strawberry-based pizza, tiramisu, cr?me br?l?e, as well as regular meal replacement menus.
