'Parasite' Success Boosts 'Jjapaguri'... Recipe Released in 11 Languages
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] "What is Jjapaguri?"
In the movie Parasite, Chung-sook (Jang Hye-jin), the wife of Ki-taek, says this in response to Yeon-kyo's (Cho Yeo-jeong) instruction to make Jjapaguri. Jjapaguri is a dish made by boiling equal parts of Nongshim's instant noodles Jjapaghetti and Neoguri.
In the film, the Park family living in the mansion tops the Jjapaguri with Korean beef sirloin.
As Parasite won four awards at the 92nd Academy Awards and gained worldwide attention, interest in the 'Jjapaguri' featured in the movie is also growing.
On the 11th, Nongshim uploaded a video introducing the recipe for 'Jjapaguri' from the movie Parasite on its YouTube channel. The video supports 11 languages including English, Japanese, Chinese, German, and Spanish.
Nongshim stated, "Interest in 'Jjapaguri' has increased along with Parasite," adding, "We created instructional videos in various languages so that anyone can easily cook and enjoy it."
In the movie subtitles, Jjapaguri was introduced as 'Ram-don,' a combination of 'ramen' and 'udon.' This translation was made to help English-speaking audiences who are not familiar with Jjapaghetti and Neoguri understand more easily.
Nongshim is actively promoting 'Jjapaguri' in line with the film's success.
