Preliminary Candidate Lee Hyung-seok Promises to Establish the 'Startup Business Growth Support Center'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Hyung-seok, a preliminary candidate of the Democratic Party for the National Assembly election in Buk-gu (Eul), Gwangju Metropolitan City, promised to build a ‘Startup Business Growth Support Center’ within Bonchon Industrial Complex that can contribute to economic revitalization and job creation.
The ‘Startup Business Growth Support Center’ is a facility that systematically consolidates support infrastructure for the entire startup process, including startup company residency, startup consulting, startup business growth support, and investment linkage, enabling comprehensive support for various startup activities.
The startup rate in the Gwangju area is around 16%, higher than other metropolitan cities such as Seoul, Busan, and Daegu, which are in the 13% range. However, the survival rate of companies that have lasted five years after startup is about 23%, known to be the lowest among metropolitan cities nationwide.
Preliminary candidate Lee Hyung-seok said, “There is a need to create jobs in new growth engine industries due to the decline in job creation capacity in the existing manufacturing sector in the Gwangju area,” and added, “We will promptly establish the ‘Startup Business Growth Support Center’ in Buk-gu, which consolidates startup companies and support facilities to be linked with the AI convergence industry complex being developed in Buk-gu Advanced District 3, to address this issue.”

He continued, “The establishment of the ‘Startup Business Growth Support Center’ will contribute to the revitalization of the local economy and job creation in Buk-gu by building an integrated startup support system that consolidates research and development facilities, corporate support facilities, and education and training facilities for technical personnel in one place,” adding, “Moreover, it will also enhance the synergy effect of increasing corporate competitiveness through mutual linkage among small and medium-sized enterprises.”
