[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The number of users of the Sejong Bus Rapid Transit system (hereinafter BRT) and intercity buses has reached an all-time high.
The Administrative City Construction Agency announced on the 7th that the number of BRT and intercity bus users last year was 12.34 million. This represents a 13% increase compared to the previous year (10.96 million) and is the highest number recorded since surpassing 10 million users in 2018.
According to the agency, currently in Sejong New City, three BRT lines?900, 990, and 1001?and five intercity bus lines?757 (formerly 751), 1000, 1002, 1004, and 1005?are in operation.
Among these, the BRT lines increased from 6.29 million users in 2018 to 7.03 million last year, while intercity buses rose from 4.67 million to 5.31 million users, respectively.
In particular, the agency analyzes that the establishment of the 900 BRT line in 2018, which connects various residential areas within Sejong New City, has played a significant role in enhancing public transportation convenience and accessibility, contributing greatly to the increase in users.
Additionally, the operation of intercity buses running between Sejong, Daejeon Yuseong-gu (Banseok), and Cheongju Airport has been a factor steadily increasing public transportation users among neighboring cities centered around Sejong, according to the agency.
