Former Daejeon Citizen Coach Ko Jong-su Indicted for 'Unfair Involvement in Player Selection'
[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] Former head coach of professional football K2 League Daejeon Citizen, Ko Jong-su, has been brought to trial on charges of illicit involvement in the player selection process.
On the 30th, the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office indicted former coach Ko and Daejeon City Council Chairman Kim Jong-cheon on charges including obstruction of business.
In 2018, Chairman Kim requested former coach Ko to select the son of an acquaintance, and Ko accepted, including a player lacking professional qualifications on the list of successful candidates.
It was investigated that Chairman Kim told former coach Ko and Mr. A, a registered intermediary of the Korea Football Association, "We will allocate the budget shortfall for the team through a supplementary budget," making such a request. The prosecution believes that a bribe was also received from the player's father in return for the favor.
