Minister of Science and ICT Meets IPTV Association President, Emphasizes "Establishing Fair Competition"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that Minister Choi Ki-young met with Yoo Jeong-ah, President of the Korea IPTV Broadcasting Association, on the afternoon of the 30th to discuss current issues and development directions in the IPTV industry.
At the meeting, President Yoo expressed gratitude for the Ministry's prompt review and decision regarding the recent M&A of LG Uplus-CJ Hello and SK Broadband-TBrod, and shared opinions on IPTV industry issues such as terrestrial retransmission fees, home shopping transmission fees, and PP program usage fees.

Minister Choi stated, “The recent M&A is a voluntary adaptation process by the industry in response to changes in the market environment, such as the rise of over-the-top (OTT) internet video services, and is expected to bring new vitality to the domestic media industry,” adding, “As the influence of IPTV operators in the pay TV market grows, efforts are needed to establish fair competition relationships with related businesses such as home shopping companies and PPs.”
