Choi Young-ho Preliminary Candidate "Formation of Special Committee for Preventing Safety Accidents in Public Facilities"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Choi Young-ho, a preliminary candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea in Gwangju Metropolitan City Dongnam-gap, stated on the 29th, "It is regrettable that the situation where the lives and property of the people are harmed due to recurring accidents at facilities used by unspecified many people has not improved," and pledged, "Once the 21st National Assembly convenes, I will form a 'Special Committee for the Prevention of Safety Accidents in Public Facilities.'"
Candidate Choi emphasized, "The political sphere cannot escape criticism that it only applies temporary measures whenever accidents occur, leading to repeated incidents," adding, "Starting with safety accidents that have a high recurrence rate, I intend to review related laws, specifically identify problems in law enforcement by administrative and related agencies, and prevent the recurrence of safety accidents in public facilities through demands for the enactment and revision of related laws and improvements to enforcement agencies."
He said, "It is tragic that despite losing young lives in the Gangneung pension gas poisoning accident and conducting extensive safety inspections of lodging facilities, another accident occurred due to insufficient safety measures at an unlicensed pension."
He continued, "The lodging facility-related laws in tourist areas and rural fishing villages are based on various laws such as the Tourism Promotion Act, Public Health Management Act, and Rural Fishing Village Maintenance Act, which causes issues with management authorities and the fact that local governments have neglected unlicensed facilities for years," explaining, "There are still loopholes in safety management such as gas facilities in unregistered facilities."
