Pretended to Be Older Brother After Being Caught Driving Under the Influence Without a License... Court Says "Bad Nature of Crime" and Sentences to Prison
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] A man in his 40s who caused a traffic accident while driving under the influence without a license was sentenced to prison.
The Cheongju District Court Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Go Seungil) announced on the 24th that it sentenced A (42), who was indicted for violating the Road Traffic Act and forgery of official documents, to 1 year and 4 months in prison.
The court explained the sentencing reason, saying, "Considering the circumstances and method of the crime, the nature of the offense is not good, and despite the serious injuries and damages caused by the traffic accident, there was a lack of effort to reach a settlement. Punishment commensurate with this is necessary."
A is accused of causing a traffic accident while driving under the influence without a license on a road in Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju City, at around 9:50 p.m. on June 7 last year.
At the time of the accident, A's blood alcohol concentration was 0.23%, indicating a state of severe intoxication.
Additionally, A is accused of pretending to be his older brother by showing his brother's driver's license when a police officer at the scene requested identification.
Meanwhile, even after being prosecuted, A did not restrain himself and was caught again driving without a license on a road in Sangdang-gu, Cheongju City, at around 4 a.m. on July 27 of the same year.
