New Jungnang Food Market Opened in Myeonmok... Continuous Sponsorships for Jungnang Food Market
Following the existing Sinnae Branch, the second branch, Myeonmok Branch, is newly established to improve accessibility for residents in the Myeonmok-dong area... Food support including ramen and beverages provided by sponsors such as Homeplus Sangbong Branch
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) established the ‘Jungnang Food Market Myeonmok Branch’ on the first floor of the Jungnang Vehicle Registration and Sharing Center in Myeonmok-dong on the 8th, focusing on revitalizing the donation food sharing project by enhancing the convenience of use for residents of Myeonmok-dong.
Operating for 15 years since November 2005, the Jungnang Food Market is a facility where low-income residents such as children suffering from food insecurity and elderly living alone in the area can visit directly and select the items they want.
It operates by receiving donations of surplus food and daily necessities from sponsors including companies and individuals. Last year, donated food and goods worth approximately 1.7 billion KRW were supported from 539 donation sources.
In 2019, 2,457 households were selected as users of the Jungnang Food Market, and 1,756 households actually used it, recording a usage rate of 84.1%. In 2020, the target number of users is planned to expand to 3,000 households.
Accordingly, from the first day of opening the ‘Jungnang Food Market Myeonmok Branch,’ support from the local community has continued. Homeplus Sangbong Branch (Branch Manager Kwak Moon-gyu) delivered 67 boxes of Sajo gift sets to Jungnang-gu, and organizations such as the Small Love Sharing Movement Headquarters, Ilsim Food, Riel Industry, and Yongma Urban Development also donated food products worth about 40 million KRW including ramen and beverages to the Jungnang Food Market.
Additionally, the district is carrying out a remodeling project to transform the aging facilities of the ‘Jungnang Food Market Sinnae Branch’ into a pleasant space, which is scheduled to be unveiled to residents in April this year.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I am grateful to Homeplus Sangbong Branch for their meaningful support every year without fail for the neighbors in need in Jungnang-gu,” and added, “I hope that the donated items steadily accumulated at the Jungnang Food Market will reach out evenly to those in need.”
