Seoul City Internet Citizen Monitoring Group Monitors Over 70,000 Cases of Illegal Harmful Information Including Business Trip Massage and Lover Substitute Services

Over 60,000 Complaints Reported to the Korea Communications Standards Commission
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The 'Seoul Internet Citizen Monitoring Group,' which actively monitors and reports illegal harmful information such as prostitution mediation and advertisements, and obscene materials encountered in daily life, monitored 76,600 cases of illegal and harmful information last year. The number of reports submitted to the Korea Communications Standards Commission and others reached 65,205.
On the 16th, Seoul City announced that it will recruit 1,000 citizens on a first-come, first-served basis by March 4 to participate as the 10th Internet Citizen Monitoring Group this year.
The Citizen Monitoring Group is an online monitoring team operated by Seoul City and the Seoul Municipal Dasihamkke Counseling Center related to the illegal sex industry. Through focused monitoring, it blocks environments that induce illegal sex industry activities and contributes to the punishment and crackdown of related parties.
Last year, illegal harmful information included 49,287 cases (75.6%) of outcall massage, boyfriend agency, and arranged meetings advertisements and promotions, 15,119 cases (23.2%) of advertisements that lure customers to prostitution establishments through suggestive terms, price conditions, contact information, and user reviews, and 796 cases (1.2%) of illegal obscene materials without youth access restriction labels.
The recruitment target for the monitoring group includes citizens residing in Seoul or office workers and university students aged 19 or older who attend universities or workplaces located in Seoul. After preliminary training, monitoring activities will be conducted from March to December.
Applications can be submitted by filling out the application form directly on the Seoul City website or the Seoul Municipal Dasihamkke Counseling Center website.
