View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluated the government innovation performance of 43 central administrative agencies last year and announced the results on the 15th.
The Ministry stated, "We focused on whether innovation outcomes that the public can feel were achieved, and to ensure a fair and objective evaluation, we formed a government innovation evaluation team and a public field evaluation team centered on the private sector." The evaluation methods were diversified to include both on-site and online assessments.
Outstanding agencies selected included the Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and Korea Customs Service, totaling 12 agencies. Agencies found lacking included the Ministry of Unification, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Fair Trade Commission, and Financial Services Commission.
This year’s major achievements saw central administrative agencies focusing on five key improvement areas (child protection, persons with disabilities, elderly living alone, welfare crisis households, out-of-school youth) to eliminate blind spots in public services. Public participation expanded across various policy fields such as environment and safety, and inter-agency collaboration showed positive results. Integrated services based on life cycle stages such as pregnancy, childbirth, and death were expanded, and digital-based public services are also being provided.
For the underperforming agencies, results showed poor performance in government operations centered on social values, and relatively low scores in innovation capabilities such as leadership of agency heads, education, and learning activities. Additionally, efforts to improve proactive administration and public perception need to be strengthened.
The evaluation results will be reflected in the central administrative agencies’ government work evaluations, and agencies with outstanding innovation performance will receive various incentives such as commendations from the President and Prime Minister, monetary rewards, and certification marks for excellent agencies.
