Stepmother Arrested for Leaving 9-Year-Old Disabled Stepson in Cold Bathtub... Resulting in Death
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] A stepmother accused of abusing her disabled stepson to death for being noisy and wandering around has been arrested by the police.
The Yeoju Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 11th that they have urgently detained and are investigating A (31) on charges of child abuse resulting in death.
A is suspected of abusing her stepson B (9) by making him sit in a children's bathtub filled with cold water wearing only underwear on the balcony of an apartment in Yeoju around 6 p.m. the previous day (1st), which led to his death.
During the police investigation, A stated that the reason for abusing B was "to punish him because he did not listen to being told to stay quiet and was noisy and wandering around, disturbing the preparation of dinner."
She added, "After leaving him in the bathtub for about an hour, I took him to the room, dressed him, and laid him down to rest. When I tried to feed him dinner about an hour later, he did not get up, so I reported it."
It was confirmed that B suffers from a level 2 speech disability.
