Gwangju Dong and Seobu Office of Education Open Recruitment for School Violence Countermeasure Deliberation Committee Members
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju East and West Education Support Offices announced on the 8th that they are publicly recruiting review committee members until the 21st for the ‘2020 School Violence Countermeasure Deliberation Committee Formation.’
According to the revision of the ‘Act on the Prevention and Countermeasures against School Violence’ and its enforcement decree, the School Violence Countermeasure Autonomous Committee operated by schools will be changed to the School Violence Countermeasure Deliberation Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Deliberation Committee) from March 1, and will be transferred to the Education Support Office.
The Deliberation Committee will deliberate on the prevention and countermeasures of school violence, protection of victim students, education, guidance and discipline of perpetrator students, and dispute mediation between victim and perpetrator students. It will be composed and operated with 10 to 50 members (including at least one-third parent members).
The East and West Education Support Offices plan to form a Deliberation Committee with expertise and qualifications through open recruitment such as voluntary application and recommendation, and operate a fair and trusted Deliberation Committee in the future.
The recruitment targets are ▲ education professionals or those who have worked as education professionals ▲ teachers who have experience of 2 years or more in school violence work or student life education work or those who have worked as teachers ▲ legal professionals such as judges, prosecutors, lawyers, police officers belonging to the jurisdictional police station, and those with medical qualifications ▲ associate professors or higher at schools under Article 2 of the ‘Higher Education Act’ or those who are or have been in equivalent positions at youth-related research institutions.
Also, ▲ people with expertise in school violence issues ▲ people who have professionally handled youth protection activities for 2 years or more at youth guidance and protection organizations ▲ parents of students belonging to elementary, middle, high, and special schools within the jurisdiction of the Education Support Office ▲ and others who have abundant knowledge and experience in school violence prevention and youth protection can apply.
Details such as the schedule for the public recruitment of review committee members, application forms, and recommendation forms will be announced on the notice board of the Gwangju East and West Education Support Office websites.
The Education Support Office will select members through recommendations from schools and related organizations and voluntary applications, balancing the number of members by region, school level, and specialized fields such as sexual violence and cyber violence, and appoint them as members of the 2020 Deliberation Committee. The term of office for members is two years.
A workshop will be held next month for appointed and commissioned review committee members to enhance fairness, objectivity, morality, expertise, and reliability, covering topics such as laws related to school violence including sexual violence, functions and roles of the Deliberation Committee, and understanding the psychology of victim and perpetrator students.
