(2nd Report) 'Parasite' First Korean Film to Win Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film
Director Bong Joon-ho's film Parasite achieved a historic milestone as the first Korean movie to win the Best Foreign Language Film award at the Golden Globe Awards. On the 5th (local time), the film won the award at the 77th Golden Globe Awards ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, USA, beating out contenders such as Portrait of a Lady on Fire, The Farewell, Les Mis?rables, and Pain and Glory.
The Golden Globes, hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), are considered one of the two major American film awards alongside the Academy Awards (Oscars). The results often influence the Oscars held the following month, earning the Golden Globes the reputation of being a precursor to the Oscars.
Parasite had long been regarded as a strong contender for the Best Foreign Language Film award. Since winning the Palme d'Or at last year's Cannes Film Festival, it has participated in sixty film festivals and award ceremonies, winning honors at thirty-eight of them. These include the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor), the Chicago Film Critics Association (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Foreign Language Film), among others. On the 4th, it also took home the highest honor, Best Picture, at the National Society of Film Critics annual awards.

At the ceremony, director Bong Joon-ho was joined by Lee Mi-kyung, Vice Chairwoman of CJ Group; actors Song Kang-ho, Lee Jung-eun, and Cho Yeo-jeong; and producer Kwak Sin-ae, CEO of Barunson E&A. Writer Han Jin-won, who was nominated alongside Bong Joon-ho for Best Screenplay, was also present. This win has further increased the likelihood of Parasite winning the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. The film is currently shortlisted for the International Feature Film and Original Song categories at the Academy Awards. The final nominees will be announced on the 13th.
