Kang Kyung-wha: "Korea Plays a Decisive Role in Denuclearization Dialogue Momentum"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha evaluated on the 2nd that South Korea is playing a decisive role in maintaining momentum for denuclearization talks.
On the same day, Minister Kang met with reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building and, when asked, "What role do you think the South Korean government can play in maintaining the momentum for talks?" she said, "Without the factor of 'us (South Korea),' it would be even more difficult to expect the momentum for talks to revive."
Minister Kang stated, "Considering the role our factor plays in dialogues with China and Russia and in South Korea-US cooperation, it is clearly a decisive role," and emphasized, "In that regard, various levels of South Korea-US cooperation are taking place, and continuous communication with China, Russia, and others is necessary."
When asked whether she believes that North Korea-US talks will bear fruit despite North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un’s plenary meeting report the previous day declaring a hardline stance, Minister Kang replied, "I definitely believe so."
