View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] As the domestic construction industry is expected to continue its recession phase this year, owners of mid-sized companies in the ready-mixed concrete (Remicon) industry urged their employees to have the will to overcome difficulties. With the new year, they are setting new resolutions and presenting strategies to overcome challenges while promoting growth.
On the 2nd, Yu Kyung-sun, Chairman of Eugene Group, addressed employees in a New Year's message, stating, "This year, we are talking not about uncertainty but about recession. I hope everyone deeply engraves the three letters 'dynamism' throughout the year." The dynamism Chairman Yu hopes for means an organization that runs in the same direction by pushing and pulling each other, not just working hard alone. He also emphasized 'substance' for this purpose.
Chairman Yu said, "To demonstrate dynamism, an organizational culture that pursues substance must be the foundation," adding, "Let us not forget that while we move vigorously and actively to lead the flow of change, the stability of the organization must also be supported."
He also urged the role of leaders. Chairman Yu emphasized, "The role of a leader is to elevate the organization and its members to a higher level," and said, "All leaders must share decision-making so that followers can work autonomously, act as a shield, and inspire a spirit of challenge." He continued, "Our current mindset and determination will determine our future. I believe that if everyone sweats together, there will definitely be good results."
Remicon refers to concrete that is manufactured at concrete production plants and transported to construction sites using truck mixers before it hardens. It is greatly influenced by the trends in the construction industry, which is its demand sector.
According to the Korea Construction Industry Research Institute's '2020 Construction Industry Outlook,' domestic construction orders and construction investment are expected to decrease by 6% and 2.5%, respectively, compared to the previous year. The Remicon industry also faced difficulties last year due to a decline in construction investment and rising transportation costs.
Moon Kyu-young, Chairman of Ajou Group, also expressed concern about the industry's environment this year and urged employees to innovate. In his New Year's message, Chairman Moon said, "This year, the Korean economy and global markets are forecasting more difficulties," adding, "In this era where low growth and uncertainty have become normalized, we must remember that a moment's negligence can push all of us into a difficult situation."
Chairman Moon emphasized continuous growth. He said, "If we do not grow, we cannot survive," and added, "We must develop new products and services and create new markets and customers through constant change and innovation."
He also urged management innovation through 'ANT (AJU New Thinking).' ANT is a system introduced in 2017 from the perspective that an organizational culture maximizing creativity is required in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Chairman Moon said, "So far, I have presented the most basic methods of ANT management to you. Now, all organizations and members must proactively practice ANT management in their own new ways at their workplaces."
