Discussing Institutional Improvement Measures for the Protection of Children and Adolescents
The Broadcasting, Media and Communications Committee (BMCC) and the Korea Information Society Development Institute announced that they held the launch ceremony for the 2nd term of the Public-Private Council for AI Service User Protection in Seoul on May 12, and conducted the first meeting under the theme of institutional improvement measures for the protection of children and adolescents.

View original imageThe 2nd term of the Public-Private Council consists of 35 experts from various fields, including academia, industry, the legal profession, and civil society organizations. Professor Lee Wonwoo of Seoul National University will continue to serve as the chairman, as he did for the first term. At the launch ceremony, Kim Jongchul, Chairman of the Broadcasting, Media and Communications Committee, said, "Through the activities of the Public-Private Council, we will create a safe and trustworthy environment for the use of AI services."
The 2nd term of the Public-Private Council will focus on examining the various side effects related to AI services, which have recently emerged as a serious issue, and discussing concrete institutional improvement measures and reasonable regulatory approaches. During the meeting, Professor Kwon Eunjeong of Gachon University delivered a presentation on the current state of illegal and harmful information related to children and adolescents generated through AI services, global regulatory trends, and the direction and challenges for institutional improvement in Korea.

Professor Lee stated, "I recognize that, as AI advances, children and adolescents are increasingly exposed to various risks," and emphasized, "Continuous discussion and cooperation are necessary to ensure that the diverse opinions presented in this presentation and the comprehensive discussion can be reflected in actual policy."
