Masterpieces for Other Instruments on the Cello... Park Yusin and Han Jiho Duo Recital
May 29 at IBK Chamber Hall, Seoul Arts Center
A stage has been prepared where audiences can enjoy masterpieces originally written for violin and flute, reinterpreted through the melodies of cello and piano.
Cellist Park Yusin and pianist Han Jiho will present a duo recital titled "Another Voice" at the IBK Chamber Hall of the Seoul Arts Center on May 29.
They will perform works originally composed for other instruments, now arranged for cello and piano. The first part of the concert focuses on German music, while the second part highlights French music. In celebration of Family Month in May, the program features pieces carefully selected for their ability to be enjoyed comfortably with loved ones.
The first half of the recital will feature Schumann's "Fantasiestücke" and Brahms' "Violin Sonata No. 1." In the second half, Fauré's "Fantaisie for Flute and Piano" and Franck's "Violin Sonata" will be performed.
Park Yusin singled out Brahms' Violin Sonata No. 1 as the piece she hopes the audience will pay special attention to during the performance. She remarked, "This sonata is subtitled 'Rain Song,' and Brahms' unique warmth and melancholy blend beautifully with the timbre of the cello. I hope the audience will truly feel the melody and that its lingering resonance will stay with them for a long time."
Pianist Han Jiho was awarded second prize (the highest prize, as there was no first prize), as well as the Audience Prize and Contemporary Music Special Prize, in the piano division of the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Germany, in 2014. She placed fourth in the piano division at the 2016 Queen Elisabeth Competition. In 2024, at the age of 32, she was appointed professor at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, further dedicating herself to nurturing the next generation of musicians.
