Jang Visits Chungnam and North Gyeongsang: "Votes Will Become a Typhoon"... Capital Region Keeps Its Distance
Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, continued his extensive schedule on May 12, visiting Chungnam and Gyeongbuk. However, in the Seoul metropolitan area, residual tensions remain as Oh Sehoon, the Seoul mayoral candidate, keeps a distance, and some candidates for basic local government heads are demanding that Jang step down from his second term.
That afternoon in Daegu, Jang attended the launch ceremony of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Party's election campaign committee and stated, "Votes may not cross Gyeongbuk, but the support gathered here will become a whirlwind and a typhoon that will sweep across the entire Republic of Korea. The wind in Gyeongbuk will become the wind of the People Power Party and the wind of Korea."
First, regarding the special prosecutor bill for the withdrawal of indictments being pushed by the Democratic Party, Jang said, "Assemblyman Park Sungjoon of the Democratic Party claims that 8 or 9 out of 10 people in Korea do not know what the special prosecutor for withdrawal of indictments is. This is treating the people like fools. Korea has come to this point because of Lee Jaemyung, so is Lee the victim, or are the people of Korea the real victims?"
Jang also commented on the HMM vessel attack in the Strait of Hormuz, saying, "Is Lee Jaemyung like Hong Gil-dong? He cannot even call an attack an attack, nor can he call Iran by its name. Does Lee Jaemyung have the ability or the qualifications to protect Korea and its people?" He continued, "He always calls his administration a government of national sovereignty, but in reality, Lee Jaemyung's administration has neither the people nor sovereignty."
Jang also addressed Kim Yongbeom, policy chief at the Blue House, stating, "Isn't it what communists do when the government takes money earned by businesses and distributes it? If the nominated candidates here have fought hard for themselves until now, from today on, I ask you to fight together for the People Power Party, for the people, and for the Republic of Korea."
Since last weekend, Jang has been visiting sites in Chungnam, Chungbuk, Busan, Daegu, and Ulsan in succession, continuing his on-the-ground activities. As conservative unity emerges in the Yeongnam region due to the special prosecutor for withdrawal of indictments, new opportunities are opening up for Jang's campaign activities.

However, concerns persist in the Seoul metropolitan area. While Jang was attending events in Chungnam on May 12, the Seoul City Party held its own campaign committee launch ceremony. Joo Gwangdeok, candidate for mayor of Namyangju, even called for Jang to step down from his second term. Oh Sehoon, the Seoul mayoral candidate, told reporters, "While the party's role is needed in strong opposition campaigns, my consistent position is that, when it comes to matters of day-to-day administration, the candidate should be at the center."
