Korea to Share Hydrogen City Expertise with Hong Kong
MOLIT Attends Hong Kong Hydrogen Symposium and Signs Cooperation Agreement
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 18th that it would sign a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation across the entire hydrogen ecosystem with the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of Hong Kong, during the Hong Kong Hydrogen Symposium 2026 held at the Hong Kong Convention Center.
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of Hong Kong is the authority responsible for enacting and administering regulations on gas, electricity, and railway safety in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as well as issuing permits and licenses. Under this agreement, the two parties have agreed to promote technological development and exchange information throughout all sectors of the hydrogen ecosystem, including production, storage, transportation, and utilization. According to the Ministry, the agreement was made at the proposal of Hong Kong, which sought to share in the experience South Korea has accumulated through its hydrogen city development projects.
Jung Eui-Kyung, policy chief at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, delivered a keynote speech at the event, presenting the policy direction and current status of South Korea's hydrogen city initiative. He also expressed plans to actively promote the Korean hydrogen city model overseas. The two governments will exchange experience in hydrogen infrastructure operation, foster partnerships between companies, and support local demonstration projects. This is expected to create new business opportunities for the private sector.
