Choi Dongmin, the Democratic Party candidate for Dongdaemun District Mayor, and Kim Taekyeon, the Progressive Party candidate for Dongdaemun District Mayor, agreed on May 14 to unify their candidacies. They decided to consolidate their candidacy under Choi Dongmin.

View original imageIn the "Candidate Unification Agreement" announced on the same day, the two candidates stated on May 15, "We have agreed to unify our candidacy for Dongdaemun District Mayor based on mutual trust and respect, in accordance with the wishes of citizens who hope to bring an end to the forces of insurrection under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, restore livelihoods, and safeguard democracy."
Both candidates explained that this unification is based on a policy alliance in the areas of care, education, and green initiatives. Choi Dongmin agreed to incorporate the joint pledges on care, education, and green policies, which were agreed upon with Kim Taekyeon, into district administration. They also pledged to jointly pursue the establishment of the Dalbit Children’s Hospital and a Labor Welfare Center, as well as resolve social conflicts through coexistence and cooperation.
Choi Dongmin stated, "This unification is a responsible decision to protect the lives of Dongdaemun residents, uphold democracy, and accelerate change in Dongdaemun," adding, "I will take seriously the spirit of determination and solidarity demonstrated by Kim Taekyeon and the Progressive Party." He continued, "The Dalbit Children’s Hospital, Labor Welfare Center, and strengthening public services in care and education are the starting points for district administration that will change residents' lives. Restoring livelihoods, regional development, and protecting the socially vulnerable will be the top priorities of district administration."
Choi Dongmin also emphasized, "This election is an important choice that will open a new four years for Dongdaemun District. We will unite the will of residents who desire an end to insurrection, the defense of democracy, and a change in district administration, and ensure victory."
