Arrest Warrant Previously Returned for Further Investigation
Called Emergency Services Several Hours After Giving Birth
Prosecutors have requested an arrest warrant for a woman in her 20s who gave birth to a child in a motel room and subsequently caused the child's death.
On May 13, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had requested an arrest warrant for Ms. A on charges of child abuse resulting in death.
Ms. A is accused of giving birth to a child at a motel located in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, in February and causing the child's death.
It was confirmed that Ms. A called emergency services (119) herself, but several hours had already passed since the birth. During the police investigation, she stated that she was unaware of her pregnancy, but it was found that she had received obstetric care prior to giving birth.
Previously, the Seoul Yangcheon Police Station had applied for a preliminary arrest warrant for Ms. A last month, but prosecutors returned the request once, asking for further investigation. Police reapplied for the arrest warrant after conducting additional investigations, including forensic analysis of her mobile phone.
