Trump, Who Had Called for "Occupying Cuba," Now Says "We Will Talk"
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue with Cuba, a country with which he has long been at odds, on the 12th (local time).
On the same day, President Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, saying, "No Republican has ever talked to me about Cuba," and added, "Cuba is a failed country, heading only in one direction—toward collapse." He then stated, "Cuba is asking for help. Therefore, we will talk."
Previously, President Trump had indicated that after Venezuela, Cuba would be his next target for occupation. On the 1st of this month, at an event in Florida, he also warned, "Our military could occupy Cuba almost immediately."
In addition, President Trump announced new sanctions against Cuba. Individuals associated with core industries such as energy, defense, and finance have been added to the sanctions list, and measures have been put in place to penalize foreign financial institutions engaging in transactions with them.
