Motrex EFM Acquires Duol to Build Comprehensive Vehicle Interior Materials Portfolio
Motrex EFM has signed a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Duol, a company specializing in automotive interior materials, and will accelerate its efforts to target the global smart mobility market by building an integrated interior materials portfolio that combines seat and fabric capabilities.
According to Motrex EFM on May 7, this transaction is a strategic decision aimed at building an integrated interior materials portfolio covering the entire vehicle interior by combining Motrex EFM's existing flooring-focused interior business with Duol's expertise in seats, fabrics, and seat coverings. The company plans to strengthen its ability to propose package-type interior materials for entire vehicles, moving beyond the supply of individual components.
In 2017, Duol acquired Borgstena, a Sweden-based automotive seat fabric manufacturer, expanding its global business base. Through this, Duol secured European automakers such as Volvo and Volkswagen as clients, while also establishing overseas production bases and a global sales network.
Following the integration of the two companies, Motrex EFM expects to offer an in-cabin interior materials portfolio that covers the entire vehicle interior to automakers by combining its floor carpet-oriented capabilities with Duol’s technologies in seats, fabrics, and seat coverings. By leveraging Duol's global customer base and production network, the Motrex Group will be able to simultaneously expand its product range and customer touchpoints within the automotive interior materials sector.
In particular, as next-generation mobility such as autonomous vehicles and purpose-built vehicles (PBVs) become more widespread, vehicle interiors are evolving into spaces for living, work, and relaxation. Consequently, interior materials are expanding into smart interior materials that combine eco-friendliness, lightweight properties, quiet interiors, antimicrobial features, and textile interface functions. With this acquisition, Motrex EFM plans to further strengthen its ability to offer package-type interior materials that meet the demands for various vehicle interior configurations.
