Guro District Strengthens Resident Safety Net with Resident Safety and Bicycle Insurance Programs
Automatic Enrollment for Residents...
Coverage for Disasters and Bicycle Accidents
Guro District in Seoul (District Mayor Jang Inhong) is operating both the "Resident Safety Insurance" and the "Resident Bicycle Insurance" to protect residents from disasters and everyday accidents. All residents registered in Guro District are automatically enrolled in both insurance plans without any separate application procedures, and the district covers the full premium costs.
The Resident Safety Insurance will be provided until February next year. It covers risks that may arise in daily life, including death or disability caused by explosion, fire, or collapse accidents, as well as burn surgery costs, diagnosis fees for dog bites or collisions, and diagnosis fees for heat-related illnesses.
This year, the coverage items were reorganized to focus on practical effectiveness, enhancing the likelihood and perceived impact of actual payouts. The system was also improved to provide substantial assistance in the event of a major disaster. Insurance claims can be filed within three years from the date of the incident. The insured individual or their inheritor can apply directly to the insurer, the Korea Local Finance Association.
The Resident Bicycle Insurance will be provided until April next year. Coverage is applied automatically upon moving into the district and is cancelled upon moving out. The insurance covers not only accidents that occur while directly riding or being a passenger on a bicycle, regardless of where the accident occurs, but also accidents involving collisions with bicycles while walking.
The main coverage includes a death benefit of 10 million won and a maximum disability benefit of 10 million won, along with hospitalization and diagnosis allowances. If the insured causes damages to others, the insurance also supports fines, attorney fees, and criminal settlement support. For more details, inquiries can be directed to the Urban Safety Division (02-860-2672) or the Transportation Administration Division (02-860-2686) at Guro District Office.
