Byungdo Han Officially Announces Bid for Reappointment: "A Proven and Prepared Floor Leader"
Byungdo Han Announces Candidacy for Next Democratic Party Floor Leader
Byungdo Han, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, officially announced on April 23 his candidacy for the party’s upcoming floor leader election, declaring, “Building on the achievements of the past 100 days, I will deliver even greater results.” If elected, Han would become the first floor leader in the Democratic Party to serve consecutive terms.
On the morning of April 23, Assemblyman Han held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Center, where he highlighted his achievements, including processing 293 bills over the past 100 days as floor leader. He emphasized that he is a "proven and prepared floor leader based on achievements." In particular, he cited major accomplishments such as legislative progress on judicial reform, the passage of livelihood-related bills, and the approval of key bills through bipartisan cooperation.
Han stated, “I will prioritize victory in the local elections and support the Lee Jaemyung administration through swift passage of livelihood and reform legislation. I will also minimize conflict in key reform legislative processes through communication and coordination within the party.”
He went on to appeal for support, saying, “With my proven experience and drive, I will complete legislative tasks related to national policy by the end of the year and continue to operate the parliamentary group with a results-oriented approach.”
When asked how he plans to address major reform legislative tasks such as the amendment of the Criminal Procedure Act scheduled for the second half of this year, Han responded, “While handling the bills on the Prosecution Service Office and the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency, I witnessed the collective intelligence of Democratic Party lawmakers and members. Through extensive discussion, coordination, and consensus-building, we were able to process the bills as a unified proposal from our lawmakers. I am confident that the amendment of the Criminal Procedure Act can also be passed smoothly through collective intelligence, without major conflict.”

Regarding his thoughts on the formation of parliamentary committees in the second half of the year, Han said, “My decisions will be based on achievements and a focus on work. If the opposition continues to use the operation of standing committees as a tool for political strife or to obstruct the ruling party, as they did in the first half, then committee allocation becomes meaningless. I will engage in extensive discussions with the newly elected Speaker of the National Assembly and the opposition parties to ensure that the standing committees function effectively.”
