"I Spent Money in a Truly Meaningful Way"... How an SK hynix Employee Donated 100 Million Won
First Employee Member of Chungbuk’s Honor Society
Requested Anonymity, Donation Made Public After Persuasion
"Inspired by Colleagues’ Donations... Hoping the Giving Continues"
It was belatedly revealed that an employee of SK hynix became the first person from a workplace to be listed as a member of the Honor Society, a high-value donor group in the North Chungcheong Province region. After being persuaded by the Community Chest of Korea, the employee agreed to make the donation public and explained the motivation behind the act, saying, "I wanted to pursue the happiness of people around me outside the company as well."
According to a report by Yonhap News Agency on April 23, an employee identified as Mr. A (in his 40s) from the SK hynix Cheongju Campus donated 100 million won to the North Chungcheong Community Chest of Korea in January, thereby becoming the 99th member of the North Chungcheong Honor Society. The Honor Society is a group of individuals who have donated at least 100 million won or pledged to contribute that amount within five years, and it has traditionally been composed mainly of businesspeople. Mr. A is the first ordinary employee to be listed in the North Chungcheong Honor Society.
Mr. A made the donation anonymously and requested that the Community Chest not disclose the donation to the public. However, after the organization persuaded him that his good deed could serve as an example for others, the news of his donation was eventually made public. Mr. A commented, "I was initially embarrassed because I thought the company name might attract excessive attention, even though I was simply doing my part," adding, "But just as I was motivated by hearing about the donation activities of other colleagues, I thought that news of my donation might inspire someone else to give as well."
Mr. A, who has been regularly supporting various volunteer organizations for over a decade, stated, "Pursuing the happiness of people outside the company is part of SK Group's management philosophy," and added, "Through in-house training, I came to think that I wanted to contribute to the local community." He went on to say, "In the future, I plan to continue donating for the advancement of medical technology."
Amid heightened interest in SK hynix's "record-breaking bonuses" driven by the AI semiconductor boom, a donation by another employee from the company also attracted attention online earlier this year. In February, another SK hynix employee, identified as Mr. B, posted on the anonymous workplace community Blind under the title, "Let me show off today. I just spent some money," revealing that he had delivered ten pizzas, fruit, and snacks to an orphanage in Jochiwon, Sejong City.

He shared, "My school days were very difficult, so I promised myself that once I found a job and settled down, I would definitely donate to orphanages and send delicious food. It took a long time to fulfill that promise." He continued, "I've been struggling just to get by until now, but for the first time today, I feel like I spent my money in a meaningful way," encouraging others to donate as well. The post quickly spread online and gained attention, leading to a "donation relay" among other SK hynix employees and office workers.
