Bomun Golf Club to Use Hydrogen Fuel Cell Waste Heat for Sauna Operation... Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation and Seorabeol City Gas Sign Business Agreement
Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation (President Kim Namil) is introducing a bold carbon-neutral model by applying waste heat generated during the hydrogen fuel cell power generation process to golf course operations.
On April 22, Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation signed a "business agreement for eco-friendly golf course operation and revitalization of renewable energy" with Seorabeol City Gas Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Junseok) at the Bomun Golf Club.

Under this agreement, a hydrogen fuel cell power generation facility will be installed on the idle land of Bomun Golf Club. The plan is to utilize the waste heat generated as a byproduct of power generation for the golf club’s clubhouse and sauna facilities.
According to Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation and Seorabeol City Gas, while there have been some cases in which waste heat from hydrogen fuel cells is reused in industrial facilities or apartment complexes, directly using it as operational energy at a golf course is an innovative attempt that has not been seen either domestically or internationally.
In this project, Seorabeol City Gas will be responsible for the installation, operation, and management of the fuel cell power generation facility. By efficiently recycling electricity and waste heat, the company is expected to play a key role in creating an eco-friendly golf course environment.
Through this initiative, Bomun Golf Club is expected to be reborn as a global leading model of a carbon-neutral golf course with maximized energy efficiency.
Kim Namil, President of Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation, emphasized, "Operating an eco-friendly golf course using hydrogen fuel cell waste heat is a world first," and added, "Starting with Bomun Golf Club, we will build sustainable, eco-friendly tourism infrastructure and set a new milestone for ESG management in the tourism sector."
Kim Junseok, CEO of Seorabeol City Gas, stated, "When this facility is operational, it will achieve a greenhouse gas reduction effect equivalent to planting 38,000 30-year-old pine trees annually, as well as reduce energy costs and actively contribute to the government’s carbon neutrality policy."
Seorabeol City Gas Co., Ltd. was founded in 2000 and is a leading regional energy company supplying clean fuel, natural gas (LNG), mainly in the Gyeongju and Yeongcheon areas. For over 20 years, it has established a stable energy supply network. Recently, it has been at the forefront of realizing carbon neutrality by expanding renewable energy infrastructure such as hydrogen fuel cell power generation.
A hydrogen fuel cell is a pollution-free power generation system that produces electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen without burning fossil fuels. With minimal energy loss and high power generation efficiency, it also cleans fine dust during operation, making it a core technology for achieving carbon neutrality.
