Goryeong County Steps Up to Prevent Solitary Deaths and Identify Welfare Blind Spots
Warm Attention and a Robust Welfare Safety Net
Goryeong County in North Gyeongsang Province held the 2026 first-half Goryeong County Hope Sharing Committee meeting on April 22 in the Gayageum Room on the second floor of the county office.
During the meeting, the committee introduced ongoing projects aimed at preventing solitary deaths and supporting those in welfare blind spots within the county. They also discussed ways to identify individuals in need and provide them with assistance.
The Hope Sharing Committee was established based on the "Ordinance on the Identification of Goryeong County Residents in Welfare Blind Spots," which was enacted on May 31, 2023, to discover those in welfare blind spots and build an interlinked support system.
The committee comprises representatives from eight local agencies, including the Office of Education, Police Station, Fire Station, National Health Insurance Service, Post Office, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Water Resources Corporation, and Goryeong Youngsaeng Hospital.

Working in cooperation with the Hope Welfare Support Team at the county office, the Hope Sharing Committee leads efforts to eliminate welfare blind spots through various initiatives. These include: referring emergency crisis households such as crime victims; identifying low-income, impoverished children and at-risk youth prone to delinquency or running away; detecting high-risk elderly people living alone using the Emergency Safety Notification Service; finding households in arrears on health insurance premiums, electricity bills, or water charges; identifying households suspected to be in blind spots through the Well-being Mail Service; and referring low-income, impoverished households in urgent need of welfare support.
Choi Hwadeuk, head of the Resident Welfare Division and chairperson of the committee, stated, "Thanks to the warm attention of our members in their respective fields, a tight welfare safety net is being formed. I hope you will continue to be a strong protective fence for our neighbors in need."
