Ulsan City to Launch Shuttle Bus Service for Bangucheon Rock Engravings
Improved Convenience for World Heritage Visitors
Traffic Congestion Expected to Ease
Ulsan City is introducing a circular (shuttle) bus service to enhance convenience for visitors to the Bangucheon Rock Engravings, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The city announced that starting April 24, 2026, the circular bus will officially operate in the area surrounding the Bangucheon Rock Engravings. This measure aims to improve accessibility for the rapidly increasing number of visitors following the site's inscription as a World Heritage site, while also addressing local residents’ inconvenience caused by a surge in vehicles, parking shortages, and traffic congestion.
Especially ahead of the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, scheduled to be held in Busan this July, this initiative is also significant as a proactive step to accommodate rising numbers of both domestic and international tourists.
The shuttle bus will run in a loop connecting key locations, including the Bangudae Rock Engravings parking lot, the Rock Engravings Museum, Bangudae Entrance and Guryangcheonjeon bus stops, Ulsan Daegok Museum, and the Cheonjeolli Inscriptions and Rock Engravings entrance. This service is expected to provide greater convenience for both individual and group tourists.
The shuttle will operate five days a week, from Wednesday to Sunday, with the first departure at 9:50 a.m. and a total of eight runs per day. Ulsan City plans to flexibly adjust the number of trips according to seasonal changes and user demand. The timetable can be found on information boards at major locations such as the Rock Engravings Museum, and via Ulsan City’s official social media channels.
This shuttle bus service is seen not just as a transportation support measure, but as a foundational policy to raise the international profile of the Bangucheon Rock Engravings. Since the World Heritage inscription, Ulsan City has been steadily implementing improvements to the viewing environment, upgrading the information system, and organizing commemorative events. The new service is a continuation of these efforts.
