A Participatory Event Combining Performances, Activities, and Exchange
Fostering Empathy Beyond Disability Awareness
In celebration of the 46th National Day of Persons with Disabilities, Songpa-gu, Seoul will hold the "2026 Songpa-gu Disability Festival – Let's Laugh Together" at the district office's main auditorium on April 20.
This event is organized and hosted by the Songpa Inseong Disabled Welfare Center, with sponsorship from Songpa-gu. About 350 participants, including people with disabilities, their families, and representatives from 22 local welfare institutions and organizations for the disabled, are expected to attend. The festival is designed as a participatory event focused on empathy and exchange, going beyond simply raising awareness of disabilities. The program will begin at 2:00 PM with a vocal and instrumental performance by the disabled performance group "Beautiful Mind," followed by a commemorative ceremony, a celebratory performance, and hands-on activities.
During the first part, 12 individuals who have contributed to the advancement of welfare for the disabled will be presented with commendations. There will also be a "Purple Wave Performance," in which participants wave towels inscribed with the phrase "Everyday Life for All, Naturally Accessible."
The second part will feature a celebratory performance, including a traditional Korean music performance by the Gwanhyeonmaengin Traditional Arts Group, a Korean dance rendition of "Byeoljubu-jeon" by the joint disabled and non-disabled performance group "Bitsori Friends," a magic comedy show by magician Tiger Woozbek, and a stage by trot singer Na Dokyung.
At the event venue, participatory programs will be offered, such as a disability awareness challenge, calligraphy experience and exhibition, foot-and-mouth painting demonstrations and exhibitions, and a photo zone. Cookies, chocolates, and air fresheners produced at vocational rehabilitation facilities for persons with disabilities, including Songpa With Us, will also be showcased.
