Gwangju Urban Corporation to Operate 'Climate Change Week' for Earth Day
Environmental Cleanup, Lights-Off, and Energy-Saving Campaigns to Be Held from April 20 to 24
Gwangju Urban Corporation will be operating a "Climate Change Week" in celebration of the 56th Earth Day. Carbon neutrality programs, such as environmental cleanup activities, a lights-off event, and an energy-saving campaign, will be held for five days starting from April 20.
On April 16, Gwangju Urban Corporation announced that it has designated April 20 to 24 as the "2026 Climate Change Week" to mark the 56th Earth Day, and will conduct campaigns to raise awareness about carbon neutrality and promote daily action.
This year's Climate Change Week, under the slogan "The Earth Is in a Green Transformation: Connecting the World Through Carbon Neutrality," aims to expand participation in responses to the climate crisis and resource circulation practices.
On April 20, a "Ssudam" campaign, which combines environmental cleanup and walking activities, will be held in the Sangmu district. On April 22 at 8 p.m., the company will participate in the national lights-off event by turning off the lights of the Bitgoeul Customer Center building for 10 minutes. On April 23, Gwangju Urban Corporation will join six organizations, including the Korea Energy Agency, Yeongsangang Basin Environmental Office, and Seo District Office, to hold a street campaign for energy saving at the Lotte Mart intersection.

Kim Seungnam, President of Gwangju Urban Corporation, stated, "The climate crisis is already a reality," adding, "I hope Climate Change Week becomes an opportunity for everyone to recognize the necessity of practicing carbon neutrality."
