Angry Over Club Entry Denial... Female Public Official in Her 20s Assaults Staff and Police Officer
Assault and Mockery of Police Officer During Arrest
A district office employee in Busan was sentenced to a fine after assaulting a club staff member and a responding police officer in anger after being denied entry to a club.
According to legal sources on April 14, the Busan District Court Criminal Division 7 (Presiding Judge Jang Kisuk) sentenced a woman in her twenties, referred to as A, to a fine of 3 million won after she was indicted on charges of obstruction of official duties.
A was accused of assaulting a club staff member after being denied entry in front of a club in Busanjin-gu, Busan, at around 12:40 a.m. on July 23 of last year, and of cursing at and striking a police officer while being transported to the police station.
At the time, A was arrested on the spot and, while in the patrol car, made derogatory and mocking remarks about the police officer's appearance, struck the officer's neck with her cuffed hands, and kicked the officer's arm with her right foot.
Presiding Judge Jang stated, "The sentence was determined considering that the defendant has no prior criminal record and there are extenuating circumstances regarding the course of the offense."
