Standing before the charred remains of the disaster site and the anguished cries of the bereaved families, all that filled the air was the deep sorrow of an educator concerned only for those left behind.
It was belatedly revealed that Kim Daejung, a prospective candidate for Superintendent of Education for Jeonnam-Gwangju Special City, quietly visited the Wando frozen warehouse fire site to pay tribute to the two firefighters who lost their lives, without any photo opportunities. The news has left many deeply moved.
According to local political circles on April 13, the previous afternoon, Kim visited the Wando fire site alone, without any public notification or media accompaniment.

He spent a silent moment of mourning and quietly left the site. His profound grief was conveyed only through a heartfelt message posted later on his personal Facebook page.
What devastated Kim most was the heartbreaking story of the two firefighters who never returned. One was a groom-to-be, excited for his wedding just five months away. The other was a devoted father and the entire universe to his three children, all of whom are currently enrolled in elementary, middle, and high schools in Wando.
Through his Facebook post, Kim expressed his anguish, saying, "My heart was heavy as I saw the blackened site, the tears of the bereaved families who lost their loved ones, and the fellow firefighters who could not utter a word."
As someone who has long dedicated himself to children's education, the thought of the horrific sense of loss that the three children, suddenly left without their father, must endure was a source of profound pain for Kim.
Currently, Kim's duties are suspended as he has registered as a preliminary candidate for the superintendent election. Although he cannot issue direct administrative instructions to the local office of education, he could not help but earnestly appeal to the education authorities and those around him, driven by overwhelming sorrow.
Kim pledged, "I will never forget these individuals," and earnestly appealed, "Please provide every possible form of psychological protection and support so that the young children and their families do not suffer from unbearable trauma."
He continued, "I bow my head in respect to the two firefighters who fulfilled their duty to the very end to protect the lives and safety of the people, and I join the residents in deep mourning, wishing them eternal rest."
