90% of Ransomware Victims Are SMEs... SK Shieldus' Subscription-Based Security Emerges as an Alternative
Affordable Monthly Subscription Service Lowers Barriers for SME Security
Comprehensive MDR-Based Detection and Response System Bundled with Insurance and Legal Support
'Subscription-based security services' are emerging as an alternative for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are vulnerable to cyberattacks such as ransomware. This is because they can access advanced security systems at a reasonable monthly cost.
According to the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) on April 8, 2026, about 89.4% of ransomware incidents last year occurred at SMEs with weak security. Nevertheless, many SMEs continue to face limitations in security investments and personnel management. The '2025 Information Security Status Survey' by the Korea Information Security Industry Association found that 64.7% of domestic companies do not have a dedicated information security organization, and even when they do, typically only one or two staff members are assigned to the task.
To address the weak security posture of SMEs, SK Shieldus has introduced a 'subscription-based security service.' This allows SMEs to utilize real-time security detection and response capabilities—difficult to establish independently—on a monthly subscription basis. In particular, the service is provided based on Managed Detection & Response (MDR). MDR is a core response system that identifies breaches in the early stages of an attack and blocks further spread of the damage. As attack techniques become increasingly diverse and sophisticated, its importance in the security industry has grown. For example, an attack that originated on the overseas network of a manufacturing company was detected early through MDR, preventing infiltration and spread to the domestic operational network.

When signs of hacking are detected, the MDR service team immediately works as a single unit with the client company. Through constant monitoring by the cybersecurity control center 'Secudium' and forensic analysis based on Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR), the service identifies the route of malware infiltration, determines the scope of the damage, and blocks further spread.
SK Shieldus' subscription service is combined with cyber insurance and legal advice to support SMEs even after an incident. It enhances effectiveness not only through technical support but also by addressing the financial and legal losses companies may face following an incident. Cyber insurance is provided in partnership with DB Insurance, covering costs such as IT system recovery, legal defense and reputation management in the event of a personal information breach, and business interruption losses. The legal advisory service assists with dispute situations, such as personal information leaks, that may arise in the aftermath of an incident.

A representative from SK Shieldus said, "With the recent sophistication of cyber threats, security has expanded beyond technical responses to become a crucial area of enterprise risk management. For SMEs lacking the capacity to build and maintain dedicated security teams, MDR-based subscription security services offer the most practical solution, combining cost efficiency with professional expertise."
