Seongnam City Recruiting Trainees for "Physical AI Academy"... 30 Young Talents to Be Selected
Seongnam City and Gachon University Launch "Physical AI" Talent Development
Applications Open Until April 24 for Unemployed Young Residents and Local University Students
Full-Scale Training of Core "Physical AI" Talent in Robotics, Vision, and More
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Shin Sang-jin) is recruiting trainees for the "Seongnam Physical AI Academy" until April 24, aiming to foster core talent in the field of "Physical AI," which combines the physical world with artificial intelligence (AI).
This academy is a program operated by the Seongnam City government and entrusted to the Gachon University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation. It will select a total of 30 participants, targeting unemployed young people residing in Seongnam (ages 19 to 34) or local university students and soon-to-be graduates. The selection process consists of three stages: document screening, an entrance test, and an in-depth interview.
The final selected trainees will complete a total of 1,076 hours of intensive training over approximately seven months, from May 11 to December 10.
The curriculum is structured in stages, focusing on the core areas of Physical AI: Vision, Edge Computing, and Robotics. Stage 1 (1 month) is a foundational course that builds basic programming and development environment skills. Stage 2 (4 months) is an advanced, practical course where trainees carry out projects using key technologies. Stage 3 (2 months) is a company-linked project, where teams solve assignments provided by partner companies.
Eleven companies and institutions, including Robotis, Maum AI, and the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), are participating as industry-academic partners in this academy. They will provide mentoring and internship opportunities throughout the training. Upon completion, there will be a performance presentation attended by company HR managers, supporting employment linkage for the trainees.
Seongnam City regards this initiative as the starting point for building a "Seongnam-style AI virtuous cycle ecosystem," where companies, youth, and the local industry grow together. Based on the results, the city plans to expand and establish specialized training for each industry, such as Content AI, Manufacturing AI, and Mobility AI, in the future.
Mayor Shin Sang-jin of Seongnam City stated, "The goal of the Seongnam-style AI talent development model is to directly connect talent needed by companies at the field level, while enabling young people to choose the companies they want based on practical skills. Starting with this academy, we will develop a standard model that other local governments nationwide can follow."
