Seocho-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seongsu) announced on April 1 that it opened the 'Hongssi Village Senior Lounge' (25, Hongssimaeul-gil) on March 31, after remodeling the existing senior center into a community space for all generations to use together.

This is the first case in Korea where idle space in a senior center has been remodeled into an integrated, multi-generational space that can be used not only by the elderly but also by children and parents. A full glass window has been installed facing the nearby children's park, offering an open view and allowing visitors to relax while enjoying the changing seasons in bright natural light.
Inside, the lounge is divided into a Conversation Zone for neighbors to chat, a Healing Zone equipped with massage chairs, a Culture Zone for viewing video content, a Kids Zone for children, and a Community Room for small group gatherings.
Seocho-gu is currently operating a total of nine senior lounges at Banpo, Seocho, and Umyeon-dong senior centers, Naegok and Banpo Neutinamu Rest Areas, and Seocho Senior Plaza, and plans to add two more in the second half of this year. Last month, Seocho-gu also received the top honor, the Grand Prize, at the 4th 'Korea Healthy Age-Friendly City Policy Awards'.
