Chamsaem Rural Village, home to 19 households, is predominantly inhabited by elderly residents who rely on public transportation. However, because there was no passageway on the opposite side of the village, residents had to walk along the shoulder of the national highway without a sidewalk to return to the village after getting off the bus. As a result, the villagers submitted a collective petition to the commission, requesting the removal of the median strip and the installation of a crosswalk. Students who use the POSCO Sports Land located across from the village also joined the petition, stating that it was difficult to access shops on the opposite side.
The commission visited the site to listen to the residents' grievances and, after consultations with related agencies, drew up a final adjustment plan. The city decided to relocate the bus stop and, in consultation with the Pohang National Land Management Office, reinforce safety facilities near the crosswalk, such as installing unmanned surveillance cameras. Pohang Northern Police Station agreed to cooperate in installing a crosswalk in the safety zone near the village. The National Land Management Office will proceed with removing the median strip and installing the crosswalk.
