A gold coin engraved with the portrait of U.S. President Donald Trump has received approval from a government advisory body.
According to reports from local media outlets such as USA Today, the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts unanimously approved the design for a 24K gold commemorative coin featuring President Trump’s portrait on March 19 (local time). This gold coin is part of a commemorative coin series that the U.S. Mint is promoting to mark the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.
One side of the coin will depict President Trump leaning on a desk and looking straight ahead. The coin can be produced with a maximum diameter of up to 7.6 centimeters.

While U.S. federal law prohibits the depiction of living individuals on circulating currency, commemorative coins that are not issued for circulation are exempt from this rule.
Democrats and some experts are strongly opposing the move. Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley criticized the Trump administration’s action, saying, “It is not the leader of a democracy, but rather a monarch or dictator, who puts their own face on a coin.”
