"Hands-On Carbon Neutrality Hub to Open"...Groundbreaking for First Specialized Science Museum in Ulsan
43 Billion Won Invested, Completion Slated for 2027
Experiential Science and Culture Space Linked to Industry to Be Established
The first specialized science museum in Korea dedicated to carbon neutrality will be established in Ulsan. Leveraging the characteristics of Ulsan as an industrial city, the museum is set to become a hub for hands-on education on climate and energy transition.
On March 19, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it would hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'National Ulsan Carbon Neutrality Specialized Science Museum' at the construction site in Sinjeong-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan.

The total project cost is 43 billion won (with 50% funded by the central government and 50% by the local government), and the goal is to complete construction by December 2027. The museum will be a four-story building with a site area of 20,039 square meters and a total floor area of 7,513 square meters.
The science museum will offer exhibitions, hands-on experiences, and educational programs related to carbon neutrality, connected to Ulsan's industrial foundation. It will be operated as an experiential science and culture space where all generations—including children, teenagers, and citizens—can participate.
Approximately 150 local residents, along with key guests such as Kim Sungsoo, policy chief for R&D at the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Kim Dukyum, Mayor of Ulsan Metropolitan City, will attend the groundbreaking ceremony.
