Robots in Apartment Complexes Are Getting Smarter
Hyundai Engineering & Construction Signs MOU with Hyundai Motor and Kia Robotics Lab, Suprema
Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on March 19 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Robotics Lab of Hyundai Motor Company and Kia, as well as security solutions company Suprema, to collaborate on upgrading residential complexes based on service robots.
The three parties have agreed to jointly develop a new residential model that combines various lifestyle services with security management systems by establishing a robot ecosystem within residential complexes. They plan to pilot these solutions at strategic sites to be built by Hyundai Engineering & Construction and gradually expand service implementation in stages. To introduce robot services into apartment complexes, a communications system that reliably integrates with key facilities such as entrance doors must be established.
The Robotics Lab will provide an autonomous mobility platform and infrastructure integration technology, applying vision-based artificial intelligence (AI) technology to the security domain. Suprema is developing an integrated security infrastructure that connects its unified security platform, BioStar X, as well as AI biometric authentication and mobile access authentication technologies, with a variety of platforms such as robots and resident services.

When moving around commercial or communal facilities in the complex, the robots can be linked to automatically pass through entrance doors and deliver items right up to each doorstep. Public spaces and blind spots can be monitored 24 hours a day, and if an abnormal situation arises, the control center can be alerted immediately for a swift response.

It will also be possible to check on the safety of children moving within the complex and notify guardians, or to verify external visitors and prepare for situations where strangers approach. In emergencies, such as when an elderly resident falls, the robots and control system can respond quickly. Hyundai Engineering & Construction stated, "Through this collaboration, we will lead resident-centric lifestyle innovation by gradually building a smart complex ecosystem in which various robot services, such as security patrols, delivery, and lifestyle guidance, operate organically."
