Cooperative System Established for Immediate Traffic Information in Chemical Accidents
National Police Agency, Chemical Safety Agency, and Korea Road Traffic Authority Sign Agreement
The police have established a cooperative system to provide rapid traffic information in the event of a chemical accident.
On March 16, the National Police Agency announced that it will sign a memorandum of understanding on March 17 with the Chemical Safety Agency under the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, as well as the Korea Road Traffic Authority, to provide rapid traffic safety information in the event of a chemical accident. The purpose is to support the swift evacuation of residents and to prevent secondary damage when an accident occurs.

If information related to a chemical accident is not shared quickly, there are concerns that traffic congestion could delay evacuation or lead to additional damage.
Going forward, the National Police Agency plans to cooperate with private navigation companies and other related agencies to provide accident notifications and detour route guidance in the event of a chemical accident. The Chemical Safety Agency will be responsible for providing safety information such as chemical accident details and control status. The Korea Road Traffic Authority will work to ensure that relevant safety information can be provided quickly, including displaying this information through the Urban Traffic Information Center platform.
