Gwangju Shinsegae, which has consistently engaged in social contribution, plans to conduct a variety of initiatives in collaboration with the Gwangju Environmental Movement Union.
On March 11, 2026, Gwangju Shinsegae held a business agreement ceremony with the Gwangju Environmental Movement Union along the Gwangjucheon riverside near Gwangcheoncheolgyo in Gwangcheon-dong, Gwangju, to enhance biodiversity. The ceremony was attended by approximately 40 people, including Park Mikyung, CEO of Gwangju Environmental Movement Union, and Lee Donghoon, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae.
Under the agreement, Gwangju Shinsegae has pledged to actively protect local wildlife and plants. In particular, the company will focus on identifying and safeguarding wildlife such as otters along the Gwangjucheon riverside, as well as improving insect habitats around the Pureungil area.
Immediately after the signing ceremony, Gwangju Shinsegae employees engaged in eco-plogging activities along the Gwangjucheon riverside, picking up trash and removing harmful plants that threaten the survival of wild animals. They also spent time with an ecological interpreter, observing local flora and fauna and learning about the environment to raise awareness.
Last year, Gwangju Shinsegae and the Gwangju Environmental Movement Union also carried out several initiatives together. To protect otters, which are designated as a natural monument, both citizens and experts participated in monitoring otter habitats. Additionally, to educate children on the importance of environmental protection, the two organizations held four rounds of ecological education under the name "Children's Nature Outing" at the Mudeungsan Ecological Exploration Center.
Building on last year's efforts, Gwangju Shinsegae will continue to take the lead in protecting precious nature this year by participating in eco-friendly activities in partnership with the Gwangju Environmental Movement Union.
