MDS Korea Secures Patent for Vegan Fried Chicken Alternative Meat
Food manufacturing company MDS Korea announced on March 11 that it will expand into the next-generation protein food market based on its vegan chicken manufacturing technology.
The vegan chicken developed by MDS Korea is characterized by its chewy texture and elasticity, closely resembling real chicken. In addition, as a plant-based protein product, it is lower in calories and contains no cholesterol compared to traditional meat, which is expected to meet the needs of consumers who value health and diverse dietary habits.
Founded in 1995, MDS Korea is a food manufacturing company that developed Korea’s first low-temperature pasteurized, long-shelf-life salad. Since then, it has grown based on its salad and home meal replacement (HMR) manufacturing business, supplying products through its own brands and private brand (PB) products to various distribution channels. The company has also been expanding into overseas markets since 2020, broadening its business scope.
Currently, the company supplies various brands—including Chef M, JellyBly, Salad Beauty, Sacheonwang, and Veggie M—to retail channels such as convenience stores and large supermarkets. Leveraging its OEM and ODM manufacturing capabilities, MDS Korea has been expanding its business portfolio and maintaining stable growth. The newly filed alternative meat product will be commercialized under the 'Veggie M' brand and supplied to diverse channels, including convenience stores, large supermarkets, and foodservice providers.
MDS Korea is paying attention to the rapid growth of the global alternative food market, as interest in health, the environment, and animal welfare increases. In response, it is expanding research and development of plant-based protein products based on its accumulated food manufacturing technology and mass production capabilities, and plans to strengthen related businesses centered on its alternative meat brand, 'Veggie M.'
Following its existing patent for vegan salmon fillet manufacturing technology, MDS Korea plans to gradually expand its alternative protein food portfolio with the newly acquired patent for vegan fried chicken alternative meat. The company’s strategy is to broaden its product range to include vegan ready-to-eat meals and alternative protein food ingredients, fostering new growth areas that can create synergies with its food OEM business.
